SmogShoppe: A DREAM Los Angeles Wedding Venue
Okay, I love weddings here so much because each one feels totally different. You can have a super relaxed vibe, a super quirky, funky vibe, or something right in the middle. And no matter which one you choose, it’s gonna be filled with flowing wine, good music, and a whole lotta love.
If you’re already like, “Yep, that’s the energy I want,” here’s what to know about SmogShoppe:
It’s an indoor-outdoor venue that has industrial interior design and lush, organic gardens on the outside. And yes… You get the whole space for just your wedding. Score!! We’ll get into exactly what that flow looks like.
You can invite up to 150 guests for a seated wedding here, which means you get a full dance party vibe without giving up having genuine conversations with your people.
There’s a getting-ready suite on-site called the Crow’s Nest, and it’s one that I love so much because it also serves as a little haven to escape to with your lover when you need a minute to breathe + connect. So cute!!
While there aren’t overnight accommodations at the venue, it’s located near tons of hotels. And, of course, I’ll cover how to choose the best ones so that LA traffic doesn’t have to be a problem on your big day.
If there’s something here that isn’t quiteee matching your vision, you can see my list of more unique Los Angeles wedding venues to see if your perfect fit lives there instead!
Who a SmogShoppe Wedding is Perfect For!!
For my funky, eclectic couples, somewhere like SmogShoppe just makes sense. It’s one that I always really recommend for couples who love creative design and true party energy, and aside from looking really epic, weddings here feel great, too.
One of my favorite things about SmogShoppe is that you don't feel like you're constantly dragging your guests from one place to another. People can grab a drink, hang out in the courtyard, wander inside, and actually spend time together. And if you're the kind of couple who wants your wedding to feel more like the best dinner party of your life than a super structured event? You're gonna love it here.
If that’s the kind of wedding that you’ve been picturing for yourself, SmogShoppe is a really incredible fit!! And also… You’re my exact kinda person. Just sayinggg!
How to Plan a Wedding That Feels Fun + Completely Unique at SmogShoppe in Los Angeles
When it comes to actually planning your SmogShoppe wedding, it’s a venue that makes it REALLY easy. They kind of thought of everything here, and it shows.
Here’s what you need to know!
The SmogShoppe Venue Spaces
As promised, we’re gonna get into the different venue spaces at SmogShoppe. They’re all filled with eclectic decor, high energy, and a little bit of something unique, so no matter where you hold the events of your day, you’ll get something realllly special.
The Garden Courtyard has unique greenery, a fountain, and shade for hot SoCal days, and it’s perfect for patio-style cocktail hours, an urban, industrial ceremony, or a market-style dinner party before the dance party starts.
The Grand Hall?? It’s one I’m obsessed with. It’s a garage-turned-ceremony-space, and it’s absolutely as cool as it sounds. You get cinder block walls, exposed wood, and thrifted furniture + decor that makes receptions hit different.
The Magic Closet is one of the reasons that SmogShoppe will forever be one of my favorite LA venues. Couples can create a whole surprise experience for guests behind the pink double doors. Think a special bar, a magician, a watercolor artist, or even a little swag stand!! It’s one of those ‘lil details that really elevates the space and your wedding, and I absolutely LOVE to see couples getting funky with it.
Timeline Tips for SmogShoppe Weddings
SmogShoppe doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all sample timeline that works best, because every wedding here is INCREDIBLY unique.
My biggest recommendation? Don't fill every single minute with photos just because there are a million cool backdrops here. I'd rather build in time for the portraits you actually care about, then let you get back to your cocktail hour. Because the photos of you laughing with your friends, hugging your parents, or sneaking away together for a minute? Those matter just as much.
That can look like getting group photos done before the ceremony, doing a private first look with your lover, and then joining cocktail hour with your people instead of wishing you were with them.
Timelines also TOTALLY depend on the season you’re in. Because California sunset photos? They’re basically a must. So incorporating those into your timeline and being mindful of when the sun is setting is a super important part of your day that lets you have fun and let loose a little!!
Design Ideas That Work at SmogShoppe
While I could write about wedding design ideas for a SmogShoppe wedding for literal pages… Here are a few things I’ve seen that just… Work:
A simple, understated design that lets the space REALLY show off
Vintage, retro-inspired decor (which lets you go thrift shopping and call it wedding planning)
Fully colorful, artsy, quirky weddings with tons of weird little details that feel like you
Effortless, organic dinner-party style design vibes with natural elements and earth tones
Photo Ops: How I Photograph Weddings Here as an LA Wedding Photographer
If your wedding gallery is important to you… Hi. ILY.
SmogShoppe weddings are incredible on camera. There are a ton of spaces that give you cool, clean editorial portraits, but what I notice more is how much fun everyone is having. That means a lot of your gallery is gonna look like your goofy uncle showing off in the middle of a dance circle, film photos of you two belly-laughing during toasts, and direct-flash photos of how your sparkly reception dress is catching the light.
I’m all about capturing emotion, and my approach works so well at weddings like this where everyone is settled in and having a genuinely good time. If that sounds like the kind of gallery you’re looking for, learn more about me, a documentary-style film + digital LA wedding photographer, here!!
What a Wedding Weekend Could Look Like Here
I know there are a few people out there who SmogShoppe is checking allll the boxes for, except that it doesn’t have overnight stays.
Luckily, you can still build a full wedding weekend that lets you extend the celebration for a few days. And I love that for you.
I like to see people lean into the electric energy of SmogShoppe for the entire weekend. You can have a welcome party at somewhere like a bowling alley or retro arcade on Friday evening, tell your guests goodnight at the hotel, have your whole wedding Saturday, then have a small goodbye brunch in LA Sunday morning.
It keeps the celebration energy high all weekend long, and people love having that kind of variety!!
The Best Time of Year to Get Married at SmogShoppe
Every season brings something a little different to SmogShoppe weddings, and I’m 100% obsessed with seeing what each one looks like.
If you’re going more for romantic, whimsical energy with soft light and milder temperatures, spring is the way to go. If golden light and long nights dancing around the courtyard are more your vibe, summer is perfect!! Fall brings chillier nights and earlier sunsets, and winter has cozy energy that makes you wanna be in the Grand Hall with your people well into the night. You honestly can’t go wrong!!
Although all of them are great for a SmogShoppe wedding, seasons have different lighting and weather considerations to factor in. For example, if you're planning a fall or winter wedding, remember that the sun sets earlier, which means we'll want to be more intentional about when portraits happen. That doesn't mean your timeline has to revolve around photos, though. We can plan ahead so you still get to enjoy cocktail hour instead of disappearing for half of it.
Questions I Get OFTEN About SmogShoppe Weddings
Still have questions? I’ve got you covered. Here’s what my SmogShoppe couples are pretty much always asking me.
Are There Hotels Near SmogShoppe?
Yep! Since SmogShoppe is on La Cienega Boulevard near Culver City, I'd start looking at hotels in Culver City and the surrounding neighborhoods. My biggest tip? Check the actual drive time to SmogShoppe at the time you'll be getting ready, not just the distance on a map. Because LA traffic doesn't care that it's your wedding day!!
What’s the Rain Plan at SmogShoppe?
SmogShoppe has both indoor and outdoor spaces, which is definitely helpful when planning around unpredictable weather. But I'd recommend talking with the venue about exactly how your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception would be rearranged if it rains, especially depending on your guest count. Having that plan figured out early means you won't be making last-minute decisions when you should be getting ready to marry your person!!
When to Book a Wedding at SmogShoppe
Being one of the most unique LA wedding venues, I highly recommend booking as soon as you have a few dates in mind for your wedding!!
What’s the Cost of a SmogShoppe Wedding?
The venue cost totally depends on your guest count, season, and package inclusions. I'd ask the venue for an itemized breakdown of what's included in their quote, especially furniture, staffing, rental hours, and any required vendors. That way, you can compare your options without finding out later that the budget you had in mind didn't include half the things you need.
SmogShoppe Wedding Inspo: Ingrid + Ben’s Super Cool Wedding
Okay, Ingrid and Ben’s day?? I see it every time I close my eyes.
Seriously though, this was a mix of a fun, emotional, and well-designed day that makes me smile ear-to-ear whenever I think about it. It was low-key, but creative, and had what all the best weddings do: a dinner party that naturally turned into a dance party.
These two got to show off their artsy sides in the decor and details and their emotional sides in sentimental moments like honoring Ben’s dad, toasts in half-English and half-Spanish to honor Ingrid’s culture, and a whole lot of “FINALLY!!” from their people, since they’ve been together since high school.
When a couple has lived more life together than apart, it shows. These two were BEST friends, and so goofy + sweet together. They even got to recreate one of their high school prom pictures, which makes me want to bawl every time I think about it!!
Above all… These two were just so excited to get married and celebrate with their people. They wanted all the imperfections that came with wedding planning, and it showed. We got so much documentary film photography of them and their favorite people just living in the moment!!
If you’re as obsessed as I am, here’s their dream team of vendors who I highly recommend:
Phone: After the Tone
Ice Cream: Happy Ice
Wedding Cake: Mitra Kim
Lighting: Stage Labs
Tableware: SustainLA
PhotoBooth: Boho Booth
Donuts: Voodoo Donuts & Donut Friend
Catering: El Cocinero
Flowers: Little Farmer Girl
Day-of Coordinators: Crystal Rose Events
