Why Calamigos Ranch Makes one of the Best Malibu Wedding Venues (Plus Planning Tips!)
Calamigos Ranch is a Malibu wedding venue that really stays with me. It’s peak California vibes, and I’m obsessed. Like, REALLY obsessed. As a Southern California wedding photographer, I’ve spent a LOT of days there capturing weddings, so I know that it’s absolutely perfect for the couple who’s dreaming of a magical, lush Malibu wedding. So, if that sounds like you, you won’t want to miss this guide with every detail you need to know about this venue!!
Calamigos Ranch: A Malibu Wedding Venue I Cannot Get Enough of
Okay, Calamigos Ranch has everything out of my dreams. It’s a venue that tells a story, and all the views surrounding it make it feel unreal. The Malibu Hills in the background? Love. The way the light hits at the ceremony site? It’s everything. It has rustic charm, lush gardens, and serene vineyards all in one. She’s versatile, and that’s something I seriously love.
There are so many different venues at Calamigos Ranch, and each one is timeless, super luxe, and totally unique. And if you’re here… I bet that fits your vibe so well!! Because I know you want a wedding that feels completely like you: a little nontraditional and so full of main character energy.
Weddings here feel really easy. It’s a Malibu wedding venue that’s really tucked away, where you feel like you have the entire place to yourself, and I love that the days here give a lot of frolicking-around-in-the-sun and sneaking-kisses energy.
How to Plan a Wedding at Calamigos Ranch
If you’re already sitting there like, “Yeah, that sounds perfect,” I get it. Because, honestly… It is. Here’s everything to know to plan a day that feels like that.
All the Details
I think it’s pretty obvious already that I think Calamigos Ranch is STUNNING. Another thing I love about it, though? It’s super easy to plan a wedding at. Here’s an overview of what you need to know!!
The max capacity is 800, but you can have just 35 if that’s more of your vibe. It works really well for big or small weddings, and that’s one of my fave parts!
This Malibu wedding venue is super flexible. There are indoor and outdoor options so that you never have to worry about rain, there are getting-ready suites at the venue, and there are even on-site accommodations for you and your guests. Transportation chaos?? We don’t know her.
Lastly, as though the venue couldn’t get any better, they offer all-inclusive packages. That means wedding planning looks a lot less like, “What am I supposed to be doing?!” and a lot more like kicking your feet up and enjoying a glass of wine. So yeah, it’s pretty perfect.
The Venues at Calamigos Ranch
There are 8 main spots at Calamigos Ranch that you can choose between for your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and they’re all amazing. They’re fully separate from one another so that you’re like, really secluded, and they each have their very own energy. The hardest part of the entire wedding planning process at Calamigos Ranch is choosing which one you want to say your vows in, seriously!!
The Redwood Room
The Redwood Room gives you a patio garden that’s surrounded by lush trees and then an interior with exposed wood that feels so charming, all the way around. This spot can hold up to 250 guests, and believe me when I say that each of them will be blown away by how easy transitions feel here!! There’s never that awkward moment of, “Ummm, where do I go next??” because it just flows so naturally.
This is one that’s perfect for a timeless, luxe wedding that feels elegant while still feeling real. So if that’s what you want your wedding to be allll about, don’t miss The Redwood Room!!
The Oak Room
The Oak Room honestly feels like a storybook setting. The light hits through the trees just right here in a way that makes the whole day feel really calm, and I’m seriously in love!! To me, this venue fits a more intimate wedding SO well, but if you want more of your people there, it can hold up to 225!! I just can SO picture a shaded, intimate wedding with a moody color palette and TONS of candlelight here.
The Pavillion
Okay… Outdoor ceremonies at The Pavillion have my heart. I’ll never be over the curved ceremony backdrop, the string lights hanging from the trees, or the enchanted forest feel that lasts from ceremony to reception. This one is for my super romantic, whimsical couples, and if that’s you, I love you already!! It’s for a wedding that feels straight out of Pinterest, but still totally like you!!
The Birchwood Room
If an intimate wedding is your thing, The Birchwood Room is the one for you!! It holds up to 120 guests on the sweetest little patio, making receptions feel personal and meaningful. It’s completely surrounded by trees and string lights, so it’s kiiiind of giving Speak Now. And you already know I love that.
Star C
My unique, nontraditional couple won’t want to miss Star C. The standout here? It has a merry-go-round on-site. Yep, you heard me right. So the photos always turn out completely unique and SO fun. With a space like this, you just have to have a party, and the capacity of 800 shows it!!
The Barn
Open-air barns are always the move, and when you add boho chandeliers strung above you… It just brings it up another level. The Barn at Calamigos Ranch holds up to 175 in the most gorgeous setting, so perfect for colorful, outdoor weddings!!
North 40
North 40 is so crazy. It’s basically an open field that feels like fairgrounds with tons of whimsy, which I’m SO here for. I mean, with a Ferris wheel and endless opportunities to decorate… It’s a statement.
The Vineyards
As a Malibu wedding photographer, I’m always a sucker for a vineyard wedding. The Vineyard at Calamigos Ranch brings panoramic views, effortlessly elegant energy, and a blank slate that’s perfect for a summer wedding that feels lush and a little luxe!!
What Kind of Wedding Works Well at Calamigos Ranch
If I’m being honest, I’m a big fan of color over here. And Calamigos Ranch weddings? They thrive with a vibrant color palette. So if you’re a person who’s dreaming of an ultra-unique wedding day… This is basically your soulmate wedding venue!!

Chris and Allie’s Calamigos Ranch Wedding
Chris and Allie’s day honestly had everything I love. Beautiful colors, so much love, tons of intentional details, and the kind of effortlessness that makes things flow SO naturally.
They were hidden away with their favorite people, and the day felt exactly how the couple wanted: an intimate fairy garden party. Their guests wore bright colors and put flowers in the couple's hair, the twinkle lights felt like they had magic in them, and the dance floor was full of celebration. There was emotion everywhere, from the sweetest tribute to Chris’ mom to the couple not being able to stop smiling while watching their guests. And that’s the meaning that you can see in every photo.
Not to mention, their design was incredible and so well executed by their vendors!! If you’re planning a Calamigos Ranch wedding, I HIGHLY recommend this dream team:
Coordinator: Mindy & Co. Weddings and Events
Florist: The Flower Lab
Hair/Makeup: Bobbie Pins & Blush
